How Tesco’s Senior Team transformed their leadership, trust, and performance.

In the face of extraordinary external challenges and industry complexity, Tesco's leadership team recognised the need for deeper trust, alignment, and resilience. What followed was a 12 month partnership with Complete that accelerated development, improved relationships, and created ripple effects throughout the whole organisation.

The Challenge

Tesco’s Central Europe business faced significant challenges. Siloed operations, inconsistent results, and low staff engagement left the business vulnerable and fragmented. When Matt Simister stepped in as CEO, he recognised the urgent need to rebuild trust, accelerate leadership capability, and align the team across Czechia, Hungary and Slovakia.

The Approach

Complete partnered with Tesco CE to deliver a tailored team development journey, anchored in our Four Quadrant leadership model. Over the course of a year, the team invested eight days into facilitated development combining diagnostics, values work, emotional regulation, and deep relational bonding.
Sessions focused on shifting the team from reactive silos to cohesive leadership, unlocking psychological safety and aligning personal purpose with organisational strategy.

A word from the client on their team development success…

Matt Simister, Tesco’s CEO for Central Europe:

“Complete helped unlock the leadership potential in our team. What we achieved in 12 months would have taken 10 years without them.

The Legacy

By 2025, the Tesco CE team had matured from ‘battling experts’ to one of the most sophisticated executive teams in the business. As Matt Simister prepares to step into a new CEO role elsewhere, he leaves behind a leadership culture that’s more connected, more capable and built to last.
